Hung Up
Posted by EllensLaughter on September 7, 2007
It’s lunch time! I’m having Cracker Barrel Extra Sharp White Cheddar Cheese, Kashi TLC Original 7 Grain and a link of sweet Italian sausage – cold. I’m washing my lunch down with water from my tap, cleverly disguised in a spring water bottle which I reuse on a daily basis (reduce, reuse, recycle). I love water. But what I really want with my lunch is a big glass of wine. In the afternoon heat of this day, ice cold Pinot Grigio would be divine!! And I’m thinking longingly of the bottle in my refrigerator, cooled to the perfect temperature … and the handpainted glass it would sparkle beautifully in … Mmmmm, I can almost taste it! But then I get hung up!
I get hung up on the “you shouldn’t” of having <gasp!> alcohol with lunch in the middle of the work day. Now I must admit that I can be a “cheap drunk.” There are occasions when one glass of wine can have me loopier than my carefully tied shoelaces. But if I’m careful – okay, if I make sure I have something in my stomach before I take that first sip – I’m fine. So what would be the harm, really? And who would notice if the water in my spring water bottle had a golden tint to it? Likely no one. Except me.
It’s a deliciously naughty thought to contemplate. Would I dare? I could certainly count it toward my current assignment from my health counselor to be “bad” once a day for the next two weeks, not because it is truly bad but because I perceive it as bad in the scope of my life and upbringing.
Well, lunch is over. The sausage and slices of cheese I allotted myself are gone, the cracker box is tightly closed and I’m about to have the final swig of water from this particular bottle … I’m fairly certain there will be a day next week when that water will be crisply favorful and infinitely satisfying. That is, unless I get hung up again.

I’m going to stray from commenting on what you wrote, it’s more like HOW you wrote this. I think this is fabulously written! You should compose a book of everyday “life things” such as this that just seems to pour forth from you! This is great fun reading!! Bring It On!
